The Law revealed the unrighteousness of man. There was nothing wrong with the Law, but there was much wrong with man. The Law itself has a righteous quality, and when we trust in Christ, the righteousness of the Law may be fulfilled in us but not until then. The Scriptures do not say that the righteousness of the Law will be "fulfilled by us," but "in us" because it is something the Spirit of God does. This is the sanctification of the Christian life. It is a complete change from within and not merely outward behavior. When we are led by the Spirit of God, this is realized in our everyday experience.
