Seeing her after a long two and a half months, I am incapable of concentrating on my conversation about the project my mother started with a cancer research company. The Christmas period is our first time coming together after a long time apart. As soon as the lights go out, she will be mine again. This has been on my mind since we left, and the time apart hasn’t diminished my thirst for her.

Leon watches us with his all-seeing little eyes, as he analyzes our faces. Smart detective. After a while, he’s bouncing and babbling conversationally as the things he sees between his parents apparently please his expectations.

“They are both tryin’ to get their parents together,” Lucas observes, like a proud captain with his soldiers.
