Chapter Six

The question surprised Thorne. Not that he’d mind shifting for George. He reckoned they’d have many years to run around together as animals. But George was too embarrassed to shift because of his form, so Thorne didn’t think George would want to see his wolf because they were so different and it would remind George that he was a spliced shifter. It would take time, but Thorne would show George he was beautiful when he shifted. Everything about George was perfect to him.

“Of course. Let’s finish eating and I’ll shift before we go to bed.” Thorne took a drink of his ice-cold milk.

George nodded and went back to eating his sandwich, finishing one in a couple of bites. Thorne should have made more. He got up and fixed George a second sandwich. He’d have to go shopping again just to keep up with the big guy.

It was very homey, this being together thing. This was how it could be every night for them. A shared dinner. Bed. Day-to-day stuff. He wanted to give that to George. He had so much to show his new man. He knew George would be able to settle into a normal life because he’d be there to help him.

Thorne had no idea what the spliced shifters had been put through out at the compound. It couldn’t be good or the techs wouldn’t have been prepared to hide the spliced four. From what he understood, they’d been given numbers. Those damn people had dehumanized the shifters and there was no good reason for experimentation in this day and age. That shit should have been stopped in the fifties. Leave it to some rich immoral bastard to fund research on live specimens.

Before he got really pissed off, he had to think about something else. Thorne noticed George had finished his food again so made yet another, then put the new sandwich on George’s plate just as he was finishing his second one.

“This is good. Really good.” George smiled up at him.

It seemed odd that he could look down at George. He sat in his mate’s lap and put his arms around his neck.

“It’s just a sandwich.” Thorne kissed George’s cheek. It was so right, this moment between them, even more so than the sexual part of their night.

“But I’m sitting in a kitchen and can look out of the window. Best. Meal. Ever.” George smacked his lips.

Thorne chuckled. “Can’t argue with that.” Thorne kissed George’s cheek again before getting off of his lap. “Finish up the sandwich and we’ll go out in the back garden and I’ll howl at the moon.”

It was George’s turn to laugh. It was wonderful to hear. Thorne would bet everything he owned that George hadn’t had much to laugh about in his life. It was sad and Thorne vowed then and there to give George as much joy as he could.

Thorne cleaned up the kitchen and waited for George to finish his meal. He loved watching his mate and could do it all night but he’d told George he would shift for him.
