Saturday morning comes, and I’ve barely slept.

Several times through the night saw me reaching for my phone in an attempt to message Luke, but I didn’t do it.

I’m still trying to figure out what to do. As in the right way to go about what I want to do, which is to try.

I’m going to take small steps and see how far I get. The situation is vague now. Monday is when I’m supposed to see him next, but that will be at work.

What I don’t want is to get stuck talking about work, and the situation between us will be the elephant in the room. That would be really bad. I don’t know how some people can do that, just pretend a problem away like it never existed in the first place.

My doorbell rings, snapping me out of my thoughts. I don’t know who that is. I’m not expecting anybody, and I haven’t ordered any packages. I tend to do a makeup and bath-pampering online shopping spree once a month, and I’ve already done that.

I check my face first in the mirror by the stairs because I don’t want to frighten the mailman. Without makeup I look like I’m still in college, but when I have nights like I did last night, I tend to err more on the trollish side. Thankfully, I look semi-decent.

I rush to the door and my mouth drops when I look through the little peephole and see Luke standing on the porch carrying a grocery bag.

Luke is here. He’s at my house, and he looks gorgeous as usual. In his Levi’s and biker jacket, he looks like a walking ad or like he was pulled from the set of some film where he’s the hunky heartthrob all the women swoon over.

And he looks nervous.

My surprise at his presence makes me pull the door open without any further thought. It’s only once the door opens that I think to maybe run a hand through my hair to make it look less messy and change out of my pajamas, which is a slinky pair of pink shorts and a camisole to match. I’m not even wearing a bra underneath it.

Dressed like this, I could usually get away with grabbing the mail or a package quickly, but not entertaining someone. Someone who is Luke.

His face brightens when he sees me. The sun on his bright green eyes makes them brighter, and I think of the days I used to spend just looking at him.

“Morning…I’m sorry. I hope I didn’t wake you up,” he says, looking over my attire. I don’t miss the way his eyes darken as they roam over my body.

My cheeks flush and heat creeps down my neck the longer I look at him.

“I wasn’t sleeping,” I answer.

“Oh. Good. I know I look like some kind of crazy person coming here, but this is me trying at the risk of you throwing me off your porch. I got your address from the staff records and I thought I’d come with breakfast.
