CHAPTER 27

Lucy

I was very happy with my bonds, so much so that I couldn’t stop myself from smiling at Francisco – he didn’t care who my alphas were because I had chosen them.

“Would you like me to introduce you to my bond mates?” I asked, keeping my voice soft. This new peace between us felt so fragile that I was scared it would break it if I spoke too loudly.

“I would love that.” Francisco smiled down at me like an overindulgent father. He didn’t ruin this moment by telling me he already knew who they were either, or that he’d met them before.

This brutal alpha who could be soft for just a handful of people smiled when I turned to indicate Cas first. “This is Cassius Valentine and his boyfriend, Liam.”

Purposefully leaving out Liam’s pack name made Francisco raise his eyebrows, but he didn’t question it. Frankie gave us some space, heading over to the dining table to greet Peter, ignoring the other alpha at the table completely.

I couldn’t help but wonder why Francisco had brought Shiloh out of all the Lopez cousins.

I turned back to see Francisco shaking hands with Cassius and then Liam, giving them both the sharp smile that reminded people he was called a shark attorney for a reason, and there was a tenseness between them I didn’t like, one that reminded me of what Liam had told me.

Francisco insisted he didn’t know where you were.

“I’d like to speak with you at some point after the meeting,” Liam said. His deep voice wasn’t challenging in any way, but Francisco visibly stiffened.

“If Lucy agrees, I’ll make time.”

Liam leaned down and whispered in my ear, “Should I give you some time with him?”

I looked up at him in surprise, not sure how he’d picked up on something I was barely aware of.

His red eyes searched mine, waiting patiently.

God, he looked so pretty. His eyes were darker than before, but there were layers of bright red that kept catching the light and the way he looked at me was so fucking intense…I was everything to him. Nothing else deserved his attention and I was pretty fucking sure that feeling would never get old.

“Yeah, I think so,” I managed.

Liam flashed me a grin like he knew exactly what he did to me and fucking loved it. “I’m going to stand right over there, where you can see me. Okay?”

I nodded and watched him go stand by the door, crossing his arms over his chest before leaning against the wall to wait – for his mother, for me, I wasn’t sure, but he was still close just in case I needed him.

Cas settled his hand on the back of my neck to hold me in place as he leaned down to kiss the bond marks on my neck, his soft lips tickling my skin before the sensation disappeared as if it had never been there.

He went to go stand with Frankie, between me and Shiloh. Cas didn’t try to hide the fact that he was staring at me either.
