DAY 15 SYDNEY

SUNDAY 8th December

Arriving in Sydney

Oosterdam Time for a last drink

The ship arrived at the pilot rendezvous about 5:00 am. The entry in Sydney harbour is always dramatic especially when the Port Jackson is smooth like a millpond. A couple of eager early morning fishermen were out; other than that we had the harbour to ourselves. The ship slowed as we came abreast of the Sydney Opera House and then took a graceful arc to bring the ship into the dock at Circular Quay.

By 6:45 am were securely tied up and the huge task of transferring the baggage ashore could begin. We’d travelled 4227 nautical miles. An hour later we could go ashore. Reclaiming our bags, it was a short walk to the Quay #5 ferry terminal at Circular Quay. In less than an hour we were sitting on the balcony of our apartment wading through our mail.

Thank you Holland America and your crew for making the cruise so special. Thank you to the islanders who had sought to make our visit so memorable and thank you Mr Kodak for having the idea that led to the digital camera. Now our memories of our South Pacific cruise will go on forever.
