Café Deutschland I (1977-78). This piece is oil on canvas and forms part of a series of 16 paintings. It shows an influence back to German Expressionism of an earlier time. It depicts a nightmarish underground nightclub with references to the divide of Germany during the 1970s and ‘80s. It is held by the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany.

Performance Art

In this genre, the art is performed live to the audience. Most commonly it included the artist themselves, but also often involved additional collaborators.

It was used and influenced by other movements including futurism and Dada. It is possible to see a pattern emerge, where it can be seen artists often turned to performance art when they became disillusioned with the more traditional art forms such as painting and sculpture.
