Defiance called her aide and sent him after some clothes for her to wear. Since I’m out of the tank, I’m going to stay out. She pulled her panel down and had a look at the status reports. The fighters maintained their patrol routes close to Mauler. Enterprise’s other armaments were being quietly readied. If Zak wanted a fight, she’d give him one. She didn’t know much about space combat, but that’s why she had Sheppard. The Angel’s only loss wasn’t on the record, and that was to Kita. Thinking of Kita sent a warm sensation through her chest and limbs. What is it about Kita that makes me tingle? She couldn’t remember anyone else that made her have such a reaction.

Her aide returned with a selection of clothes. She selected a simple programmable bodysuit. The uniforms and formal attire would be too hard to put on with her limbs being so badly damaged. She set the bodysuit to copy the flight suits of her pilots. She was a pilot after all.

Sheppard called. “Where do you want me, Case?”

“On the bridge, but standby to be on the call with Zak. He respects you so you can help talk him down.”

“Sure thing. I’m catching up on the ship’s activity. Seems you’ve done a good job.”

“That’s because you’ve trained your officers well. I just tell them what I want. They make it happen.”

“So what is the plan? We can’t hang around here for too long, or those Cerbero ships will catch us.”

“Depends on if we can talk Zak down. I want to be prepared to fight.”

“That’s a tall order, Casey.”

“I know, but the squadrons are already out, and the ship’s guns are as close to ready as can be.”

“I’ll run the simulator and see what the team can come up with.”

“Thanks, Rene. As soon as Jess gets up here, I plan on calling Zak.”
