CHAPTER EIGHT

COOP SENSED IT the instant she stopped fighting her misgivings. In between one heartbeat and the next, she made a decision. He couldn’t quite believe his luck. But he wasn’t going to stop and analyse the moment; to wonder what’d made her change her mind.

Kissing her was a risk. A calculated one, but a risk nonetheless. And God he was glad he’d taken it. The sheer torture of Tara’s presence while she bent over him, her fingers so gentle and tender on his skin, had rubbed his nerves raw until he couldn’t stand it any longer. He’d hardly even noticed the pain as she’d dabbed on the antiseptic, all his senses attuned instead to Tara and her lithe, luscious body standing so close to him.

He had to hold her, take her, and damn the consequences.

Now she was lying beneath him, her long legs stretched down the length of his. She pulled his mouth down onto hers, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck and nipped at his tongue, his lips, as she kissed him. Grinding herself against his erection, it sent sharp spikes of desire coursing through him. Jesus, he was so hard. She was driving him crazy with her need. There was an urgency in Tara tonight that hadn’t been there the other night when they’d kissed. It called to something equally urgent in Coop, compelling him to gather her even closer in his arms, needing to feel her soft, warm body tight against his.

He wanted to see her naked. Forgetting everything else, he leant all his weight into his left arm, meaning to reach down and start undoing her shorts.

‘Oww.’ His grunt of pain was involuntary, and it was out before he could stop it. He’d forgotten all about his sore shoulder. He went back to trailing his mouth down Tara’s neck, ignoring the pain, but she stiffened beneath him. Goddamnit! Why couldn’t he have just kept quiet?

Instead of pulling away, as he expected, she said, ‘Let me try something.’ She braced her legs and then she started to twist, until he was the one lying on his back in the soft undergrowth, and Tara was on top. ‘Better?’

‘Mmm hmm,’ he replied, a shiver of anticipation running through him. Tara had always been a take-charge kind of girl.

Were they really going to do this? Out here in the jungle? Coop knew Martin wouldn’t come looking for them. Coop and Tara barely even registered on Martin’s radar right now. He’d be wound up too tight worrying about the mission to worry about what they were up to. Graeme would know better than to come looking for them, his astute gaze missed nothing. And bumbling Bruce wouldn’t have any inkling of what they might be doing. He sure as hell wouldn’t come looking for them unless Martin told him too. He’d be too busy worrying about Tony, and how badly he’d stuffed up the mission, as well as his partner’s chances of remaining in the terrorist unit after such a huge mistake.
