CHAPTER 13

Casey awoke to the right side of the bed empty. On the pillow sat a note. I’m sorry that I had to leave you, but I have an appointment this morning. I’ll call you later. Love, Carol. Casey looked at the note and flopped back onto her pillow smiling. This Carol was so different than the woman she had known all those years ago. This Carol was wild and Casey enjoyed every moment. She turned as her phone began to ring. Thinking it was Carol, she answered it without looking at the screen. “Hi, baby.”

A loud chuckle answered her words. “Hello to you too, baby.”

“Erin?”

“Yes, it is. Who were you expecting?”

“Carol.”

“So how was the date?” Erin asked as she changed Robin’s diaper.

“Good.”

“Just good?” Erin asked laughing.

“Okay. It was fantastic. Boy, has she changed,” Casey said laughing.

“How so?”

“She was wild last night. Carol was never like that. Erin, I had three orgasms before we even got to the bedroom.”

“So she is going to win you back by using sex as an incentive?” Erin asked suddenly getting serious.

“It’s not like that, Erin. I had a good evening with her before we got back to the house.”

What Erin and Casey didn’t know was that Danielle was in the master bedroom changing the sheets. The baby monitor was on and since Erin had the phone on speaker, she could hear their conversation. She walked over to the dresser in an attempt to shut off the monitor, but instead kept listening.

“So you are just going to take her back just like that?” Erin asked critically.

“No. I’m going to be cautious this time.”

Erin chuckled. “Yeah, it sounds like you’re being cautious.”

“Hey, she attacked me.”

“Yeah, I’m sure you put up resistance.” Erin lowered her voice, “What about…?” she asked not mentioning Danielle’s name.

“Dani? That’s never going to happen, Erin. I can’t believe I ever thought she would jump the fence for me.”

Jump the fence? Danielle looked at the monitor as if it were a foreign object. What the hell does that mean?

“What about your friendship with her? Are you just going to walk away from that too?”

“Of course not, Erin. I wouldn’t do that to her. I like her, but friendship is all that will ever be between us.” Casey sighed, “Carol is…” She didn’t finish.

“Carol sets your pants on fire.” Both women laughed at Erin’s comment. “I hope it all works out, my friend, I really do. I’ve wanted nothing else for you except happiness.”

“Thanks, Erin. Me too.”

As Erin disconnected the call, Danielle shut the monitor off and went back to making the bed. Erin took Robin down the stairs with her and found Jane in the living room watching the news and having a cup of coffee. She looked up. “Here are my girls. What took you so long?” Jane asked putting down her cup.

“I was on the phone with Casey,” Erin said as she placed Robin into the playpen. “Looks like she’s back with Carol.”

“You don’t seem happy about that.” Jane commented softly.

“She broke Casey’s heart once.
