“Hello,” Tryck sang.

“Hello,” Dagon joined in.

“Hello,” Law sang lastly, holding the tone the longest.

“Uh, hi,” Gabby replied, his expression one of confusion.

“I need to ask you chaps a few questions.” Johnny waved toward the stool but knew all three brothers couldn’t sit at the same time.

“Why soitenly!” Law said as he stood next to Dagon.

“Where were you when—”

“I’m a victim of soicumstance,” Law stated unwaveringly.

Johnny scratched his head, unsure what that even meant. He had the Santiago brothers in the library, interrogating them, but it wasn’t going as planned. They were dressed up as the Three Stooges, and Tryck kept cuffing Dagon on the back of the head.

“That doesn’t answer the question of where you were tonight when the crime was taking place.” His neck craned back as he glared up at Law. “Stop avoiding the question.”

“I’m trying to think, but nothing happens,” Law replied in a slapstick manner.

“Oh, that happens to me all the time!” Keata bounced around, his ringlets of onion swaying. “I usually go grab a snack and read a manga. It helps.”

Johnny tapped his walking cane on the floor repeatedly to gain everyone’s attention. “Will you guys cooperate?”

“You heard the man.” Tryck cuffed Law this time. “Tell him what he wants to know.”

“Rrrowf! Rrrowf!” Law barked at Tryck in defiance.

Tryck raised his hand. “Why I oughta—”

“Fellas!” Johnny slapped his hands together. “Pay attention.” Getting them to answer one simple question was like trying to pull teeth from a lion. None of them were even glancing his way. They seemed to be in some sort of comedy routine, ignoring Johnny and his friends. He didn’t even understand half of what they were saying.

Tryck, who was Moe, kept glaring at his brothers.

Law, who was Curly, just continued to shrug, even when no one said anything. He wasn’t sure what Dagon was doing as he turned in circles, staring up at the ceiling like something was going to magically appear at any second.

Johnny took a quick look up but didn’t see anything. “Now, I want to know which one of you committed the murder.”

“I didn’t want to say yes, but I couldn’t say no.” Dagon wiggled his brows before Moe cuffed him again. “What was that for?”

“Oh, you’re an intelligent imbecile!”

“Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk,” was the only reply Larry—Dagon—gave.

“Remind me to murder you later,” Tryck said to Dagon.

“I’ll make a note of it,” Dagon replied.

Johnny wasn’t sure if he should laugh or have the three committed. They seemed to be taking the whole Three Stooges thing way too seriously. Only a crazy person submerged into the role of the person they dressed as.

“I think they’re funny,” Keata said with a snicker.

“Oh, a wise guy, eh?” Tryck asked Keata.

“Hardly,” Keata replied.

“I did it!” Curly confessed. “Slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch. I walked up to him, I smashed him like this, I hit him, I bopped him, I tore him to pieces, and then I knocked him down!”

Johnny just blinked at Law.

“Tell me your name so I can tell your mother,” Tryck said to Law.
