Josh pulled up to a gated community and dialed the Price residence.

“Yeah?”

“Mr. Price?”

“Who’s asking?”

“Detective Crew with the Maitland Police Department.”

The massive wrought-iron gates slowly swung open. Josh drove in and headed down the weathered cobblestone street to the last road on the left. A young man in cutoff jeans and a t-shirt covered in dirt greeted them in the driveway. “What can I do for you?”

Josh pulled out his ID as they approached the man. “I’m Detective Logan. This is my partner, Detective Crews. We’d like to ask you some questions about Carl Parker.

He picked up the hose and rinse off his hands, pulled out a handkerchief from his back pocket to dry them. “Why don’t we go inside.” He motioned for the men to follow him toward the French doors leading into the house from the flagstone patio. They entered the kitchen. “Can I offer you something to drink?”

“No thank you,” they said in unison.

Mr. Price opened the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water, twisted the cap off and wiped the rim with a paper towel, and took a big swig of water. “What do you want to know about Carl?”

Danny scanned the room as Josh started the interview.

“How long have you know Carl Parker?”

Mr. Price nearly spit out his water. “Carl was my Godfather.”

Josh jotted the information down in his notepad then looked up and smiled. “Then since birth, I assume?”

“You assumed right.”

“How would you describe your father’s relationship with Mr. Parker?”

Mr. Price shrugged his shoulders. “Like most business partners, I guess. They used to be close, but over the past few years I’ve noticed they hardly ever socialize together and I sensed some tension between them. Hey, wait a minute. If you’re suggesting my father had anything to do with Carl and Frances committing suicide, you’re dead wrong.”

Danny cocked his head. “You haven’t heard?”

“Heard what?”

“The Parkers didn’t commit suicide; they were murdered.”

Mr. Price fell against the counter. “How?”

“We’re not at liberty to release that information.”

Mr. Price stumbled over to the kitchen table and lowered himself onto a chair. “Does my dad know?”

“We don’t know.”

“What do you know about Carl Parker wanting to sell his half of the business?”

“Not much.” He laid his head in his hands. “I can’t believe Carl and Frances were murdered. That doesn’t make any sense. Who would want to kill them? They were the nicest people I’ve ever known. Did it happen during a burglary?”

“We don’t think so.”

“Has anyone told Ashley and Matthew yet?”

“Ms. Parker was notified, but we’ve been unable to locate Matthew.”

“Did you try that bar and grill where he hangs out?”

Danny turned to Josh.

“What’s the name of the grill?”

“The Post Time. The guy is there all the time. I think he’s seeing one of the bartenders.”

“You have a name for this bartender?”

“Jennifer something. She’s a petite lady with long, black hair, and …well, she stands out.”

“Mr. Price, is your wife at home today?”

His shoulders drooped. “Heather’s never here anymore. She spends most of her time working. Funny how when I met her she couldn’t wait to be a stay-at-home mom, but now all she wants to do is work.
