Blaize watched as Locke lowered the hydraulic ramp at the back of the van and Prince and his wheelchair emerged. Prince said something to Locke and then waved to them both as he wheeled himself one-handed across to the elevator. Blaize was certain if he tried to do that with just one hand all that would happen was that he’d turn around in circles. He wondered if Prince didn’t want a motorized wheelchair or if, perhaps, they couldn’t afford one. He had a vague idea things like that were very expensive, and probably the van with the hydraulic lift would have cost as much as a classy sports car or maybe even more.

It was difficult to think about anything much other than getting Locke alone in his hotel room with its nice big bed. Blaize wasn’t stupid, no matter what his grandfather might think. He could tell that Locke and Prince were a team. Take one and the other was part of the deal. He was fine with that.

Blaize had gone to watch the fun run thinking it’d fill in a few hours and stop him thinking about his need for a job and a home of his own. He’d even thought maybe one or two runners might come close to beating the steam train to the finish line. It had never occurred to him that the day would be so exciting and so enjoyable. Not his acquaintances from the gym. They’d been even worse company than he’d anticipated. But he, Locke, and Prince had instantly developed an excellent camaraderie. They’d talked and laughed, and he’d felt so at home and relaxed that he could almost have been up at the cabin with his brother and cousins.

Except for one tiny detail. He desperately wanted Locke in his bed, naked and underneath him as they fucked each other’s brains out. That kind of thought and conversation had never occurred with his brother or his cousins. One by one, they’d acknowledged they were gay, but they’d always scrupulously respected each other’s privacy. Once past boyhood, they’d never even skinny-dipped together at the waterfall. They’d all always kept their underwear on or worn board shorts.

But fucking was right at the top of his mind as Locke opened the door and slid into the passenger seat beside him. If it wasn’t in Locke’s plans, Blaize was going to have the bluest balls in town mighty soon.

“Where are you staying?” Locke asked him.

“At the Holiday Inn. I wanted to be close to downtown so I could easily get to any interviews. Not that I’ve had any interviews yet, but I’m hoping for some.”

“All you need is one. One who likes you. I’m sure you’ll get a job soon,” said Locke.

“I like your positivity. My brother and my cousin have both managed to find jobs, despite our grandfather, so I’m hoping I will, too.”

“What do you mean despite your grandfather? I got the idea things with him weren’t precisely hunky-dory.”

“They’re about as far from hunky-dory as they could be.
