Chapter 5

Jeremiah closed the door of the hotel suite once they were safely inside the room. “I don’t know how you put up with that nonsense,” he muttered, “I was a second away from punching that nosy reporter in the face.”

“It happens anytime someone leaks information that I’m staying somewhere. That’s why I never tell anyone where I’m going,” Alexander said. He picked up his cell phone from the table and tapped the screen. “They’re excited because they have another juicy story about my dalliances in an underground sex club.”

“Parading around town in a toga doesn’t help,” Jeremiah added.

“My clothes are locked up inside of Giovanni’s apartment,” Alexander said.

“Master, do you want me to take care of your back? It’s bleeding,” Ryan said. The crimson on the back of the white material had spread.

“Not yet,” Alexander said, tapping a few more numbers on his phone. He put it to his ear pacing back and forth. “Ciao, is this Giuseppe’s Bakery? I need ten cakes for tomorrow. Yes, I understand. I realize it’s late but I’d like to have them delivered to St. Anne’s Home for the Innocent. Size? I don’t know anything about the sizes of cakes. Large, they need to be large cakes. I want them delivered for the children at supper time tomorrow. How many children are there?” he asked. “Perhaps we’d better add two more. Six cherry cakes and six chocolate ones…” Alexander glanced at Ryan who was waiting for him. He had an anxious expression on his face. “Yes, my name is Prince Alexander Hudson. Send the bill to the…” Alex paused and grinned, “Yes you may bring it to my suite personally. Call when you arrive at the front desk. Can you fill the order? Yes? Wonderful. Thank you.” He tapped the phone. “I’m sorry Ryan, I have to make these calls now,” he apologized.

“Yes Master,” Ryan replied but he was worried. The blood stain was spreading across Alexander’s back.

“Richard! How would you like an all-expense paid trip to Venice, Italy? Bring the wife. It’s so romantic here,” Alexander said into the phone. He paused. “You saw it on the news in the states already?” he asked, “Really? Yes well, I never intended for the…no, I haven’t been living here. I was in Montana. At any rate, I need you on a flight immediately. I have a child custody case for you to work on…” He sighed. “I didn’t ask for your opinion, Richard. Yes, there was a live tiger there but that has nothing to do with…” He nodded his head, “Yes, he’s an orphan. Of course he went with the Police. He is not in my hotel room…Listen, you can interrogate me when you arrive. This is important. Go to the airport. Call me when you’re in Venice and I’ll send the driver…” He glanced at Jeremiah.

“I’m not your driver, Hudson,” Jeremiah said, sitting down and taking off his cowboy boots.

“I realize it will take time. I’m prepared to remain here until I have the custody papers in hand,” Alexander said.
