I cracked my eyes open, and the first thing I experienced was a

feeling of confusion. This wasn’t my bed. The sheets were too soft

and the bed far too big and comfortable. I then realized another thing

that was different. A very distinctive scent enveloped me, of sex, man

and…and Julian.

Like lightning, the memories of what had happened struck me,

flashing through my mind. It hadn’t been a strange, far too vivid

dream. It was my new reality.

Oddly, the thought didn’t shock me or send me into a panic attack

like my earlier one. I did experience a strange feeling of anxiety, but

for some reason, it seemed not quite like my own. It was Julian’s.

“You’re awake, leannán ,” Julian’s voice said in my mind.

“I am, and you’re not here,” I replied. I wanted to be displeased,

but I just felt concerned. I could tell my lover was upset about

something, and I didn’t like it. “What’s wrong, Julian?”

“Just business,” Julian replied. “I really wish I could come back

to the room to be with you, but I’m needed here.”

“Well, if you can’t come here, I’ll come to you,” I decided. I

would not just stay here and wait with my arms crossed while my

lover needed me. Okay, so I was new at this, but no one learned while

hiding behind their fear of the unknown.

Julian didn’t argue with me, but I could tell he was reluctant to

expose me to the hostility of his meeting. The knowledge in his mind

filled my own brain, and I frowned as I realized exactly what this

matter entailed.

It was hard to fathom that such a scandal would begin over a

child. It did happen for humans, but I was fairly certain that in normal

trials, arguments didn’t involved things like “What if he can’t breathe

underwater?”
