14 We must be cautious at this point. Kant is not altogether clear on the degree of our “obligation” to hold this practical belief. In the Critique of Judgment he says: “… if [the moral agent] wishes to remain dependent upon the call of his moral internal destination … he must, as he well can … assume the being of a moral author of the world, that is, a God …” (Kant Selections, op. cit., pp. 516–517).
