CHAPTER SIX
Saturday
Ian
Luke and I got to the trampoline place a bit early. We waited in the car until Luke got too antsy. I didn’t know if I was hoping for Benson to show up or not. I didn’t want to get my hopes up. It wasn’t like I was thinking about it…all week. But I kind of was. It didn’t help that Luke kept talking about it, and had even taken it upon himself to talk to Cathy and have her meet us here later to take him home.
Talk about the cart before the horse, but Luke was excited. I just couldn’t tell if it was because of Benson or the fact we were finally at the trampoline place. It was supposed to have big trampolines you could jump back and forth on. Cathy told us about it months ago.
It must be doing good business, because it was still open. I rubbed my hands down my pants. I was nervous. I shouldn’t be. This was just a casual meeting to see if we clicked.
We got to the door and there he was. Benson. He was pacing back and forth like he wasn’t sure if he should be there. He wasn’t alone.
“Hey,” I said softly.
“Hey.” Benson smiled at me.
“Hi, Benson,” Luke interrupted the start of our conversation. “I’m so happy you made it! This is going to be so much fun. Will you jump with me?”
“Um—yeah, sure of course. This is Trent and Jesse. My friends. They ah—decided to tag along.” Benson plucked at the end of his coat and bit his lip.
It was so cute. I wanted to soothe the mark he was surely making. At least I wasn’t the only one nervous about the situation.
“Hello, Trent, Jesse. I’m Ian. Nice to meet you.” I held out my hand for each of them to shake.
They nodded and smiled but didn’t say anything.
“I’m cold, Dad. Can we go in now?”
I was still staring at Benson, not even feeling the cold until Luke brought it up.
“Yes, of course. Let’s go.” I opened the door, and we all filed in, with me bringing up the back. Benson was in front of me and I got a good look at his ass. I needed to stop before I embarrassed myself. Luke was here. He was my focus. Sure, I wanted to get to know Benson, but talking was all we were in for right now. I did have a kid and wanted to take it slow. I really thought if I ever dated, I would get to know the person real well before introducing them to Luke, so it was throwing me for a bit of a loop. I didn’t want Luke to get too invested right away.
Relationships didn’t always work out. I’d wanted to wait a few years before Luke found that out, because he’d already lost his mother. Now it was out of my hands.
I bought a pass and some of the special socks they said we had to have to jump on the trampoline for Luke and Benson.
