Planning An Arrangement

When traveling to an unfamiliar destination, you would probably not drive off in your car without a map or at least some idea of where you were going. Likewise, most arrangers shouldn’t write an arrangement from beginning to end without first having some concept of the direction and focus of the chart. Previously I have used the term road map , a word that implies that a route and final destination were planned from the very beginning. That’s what we’ll be doing in this chapter—determining where our arrangement will go and the route it will take.
