Just like that, her bodyguard slash bad-guy hunter had something of a higher priority to attend to. Despite the obvious, that she might not have to worry about an intimate encounter with Jack due to the sexy distraction that had just pulled him from the tavern, she felt dumped for the second time by this man.

Jack had asked her to wait and have another cup of coffee while he walked over to the realtor’s office.

“This is going to take longer than a cup of coffee, hon’,” the realtor said as Jack held the tavern door open for her to proceed him out to the sidewalk. Jack had smiled in return.

Did he really think that she was going to patiently wait while he engaged with the pretty realtor who, by her island reputation, Marianne knew would be offering Jack more than just her professional expertise?

The pirate biker had a full social calendar already: a blonde realtor looking determined to monopolize his time today and tentative plans for a so-called discussion about their grandfathers later tonight.

Not if she could help it.

And especially since he hadn’t agreed to agree to her boundary lines. Once again he’d just looked at her without telling her what she wanted to hear.

Tom stopped her on the way out the door. “Jack asked me to keep an eye on you.”

“Tell Jack I can take care of myself.”

She stepped out into a gust of strong wind that sliced right through her clothing and whipped her hair across her eyes. They’d left Perrigo in such a hurry this morning that she only had the down vest over the cable knit sweater and it wasn’t enough for this rainy, damp day. But by the time she made it back to her car, she was no longer feeling the cold as her temper was simmering.
