Chapter Seven

Christo stood stock-still, glancing around what appeared to be a human restaurant. Why would Zeke dream of being here? He studied the scene and saw a woman crying as she clutched at her child while a man was being handcuffed. The guy was staring murderously at someone behind Christo.

When he turned, Christo’s brows rose. Zeke and the young man who had come to the club were standing by a booth, eyes wide. There was fear in both their eyes. Christo searched around for danger but saw none. The police were hauling the man away. There was no immediate threat.

One of the cops pivoted on his heel and headed right for Zeke. He stopped inches away. “I want both you home in ten minutes.”

It wasn’t so much the man’s words, as what was in his eyes. There were filled with rage. Christo stepped toward them, but the scene changed. Now he was standing in Zeke’s driveway.

“You were tracking us!” Zeke argued at the cop. Christo recognized the man from his sneak visits to his mate’s home. This was Zeke’s father.

“And now you see why,” the father said. “Aiden was supposed to be at the library studying, and I find him goofing off at some restaurant.” The man’s eyes narrowed. “I’m going to call the school tomorrow. If he was absent, I’m taking his car.”

“No!” the younger boy said. “That’s not fair. My grades are good.”

Christo hissed when the father reared his hand back and landed a blow across Zeke’s face. Zeke’s head snapped back as he stumbled into the side of the house. To Christo’s amazement, Zeke hadn’t cried out. The man hadn’t said a word. He held his face as he glared at his father. There was so much rage in Zeke’s blue eyes that Christo wanted to tear the father’s throat out.

“Michelle’s right,” the father said to Zeke. “You’re corrupting Aiden.”

“No.” Aiden hurried to Zeke’s side. “No, he’s not. It was my idea. I swear.”

The father stabbed a finger in Zeke’s direction. “But he’s old enough to know better.” Christo watched as the father moved closer and grabbed Zeke by the front of his shirt, yanking him closer. “I’ve given you too many chances. You have two weeks to find a place to live. I don’t want you talking to Aiden while you’re still here. I don’t want you breathing in his direction. Understood?”

Zeke nodded so fast that his head bobbed up and down as though it was on a loose hinge. Christo bared his fangs as the father released Zeke and headed into the house.

His mate wiped a hand over his face as Aiden gripped Zeke’s arm. “I’m leaving with you,” the young man insisted. “I’m not staying here with those two if you’re not here.”

“No.” Zeke shook his head. “Ted would hunt us down. I can’t take that chance.”

“Then I’ll leave on my own!” Aiden released Zeke and took a step back. “Either way, I’m outta here. Whether I go with you or live under a bridge, it doesn’t matter.
