Power and faith are twin brothers â the tension between them engenders freedom. Conversely, a lack of connection between them can deform the life of a society. While power without faith produces a cynical political environment, faith without power can easily result in abstract humanism or even a sectarian denial of concrete responsibility for humanity. On the other hand, the union of power and faith engenders absolutism and fanaticism. That is why, to this day, no one has conceived of a better way to guarantee freedom than the tension between faith and power.
