CHAPTER ELEVEN

Sarah eyed Taylor as they left the main building, sensing his sorry attitude had improved. Sadness no longer shadowed his eyes and pouty lips were nowhere in sight. She was grateful for the adjustment and other feelings, too.

Taylor’s jacket lay open to the waist. Sarah peeked at his belt line briefly, hoping he hadn’t noticed the fleeting glance. The behavior, the sensual need, it embarrassed her, yet why should shame rear its ugly head? Women possessed feminine desires. What normal healthy female wouldn’t reflect on a man’s attributes.

Who are you trying to convince?

A gust of wind bristled against her skin, stealing her warmth, her breath. Snow swirled in the air. Is Taylor cold? If so, he didn’t complain.

The wind blew again and experiencing its scale, Sarah shivered, wishing she had worn a scarf. Taylor must have noticed her discomfort as he reached for her hand. It felt right to slip her fingers into his handhold.

“Let’s run,” Taylor said. “There’s more snow on this pathway than in my mother’s freezer, and given the snowflakes swirling in the air, there’s more snow to come.”

“A bitter chill to go along with it.”

Sarah squeezed his fingers and held on tightly as they raced across the frozen path. Banks of snow drifted on either side, swirling into the air. To their left, a few well-placed evergreens. Their boughs, heavy with snow, were lit with hundreds of tiny twinkling lights.

“Is Christmas coming?” Taylor said, laughing. “I can’t believe how beautiful this is.”

“It’s magical,” Sarah replied as they dashed past glistening white lights. “Though the frost in the air will freeze your face.”

Taylor stopped at a secondary walkway. “It’s romantic here, Sarah, and there’s only you and I on the path.”

“It’s romantic inside the cabin, too, and warmer besides.” Sarah urged Taylor to run with her along the path, leading them to their cabin.

“You ready for this?” Taylor asked, showing her the door key.

“I’m freezing, I need warmth,” Sarah replied, stamping her feet on the doormat. “Open the door, let me in…”

Taylor placed the key in the doorknob and opened the door. He gestured for her to precede him inside. “After you, snuggle-pot.”

Snuggle-pot? Feeling the chill in the air, Sarah passed through the doorway and into the cabin while considering the compliment. Was that a compliment? She faced Taylor as he closed the door. “What’s a snuggle-pot?” Sarah asked, trying not laugh.

Taylor stole toward her, a huge smile on his face. “Aussie sweet talk. You’d have to read the work of author May Gibbs to get a better understanding of the term. I could also call you cuddle-pie if that suits you better.”

“Hmm,” Sarah said, snickering. “A difficult decision. Let me think about this, snuggle-pot.”

Soft music singing from the TV drew Sarah’s attention. That’s when she saw the welcome message: “Good evening, Taylor, Sarah. Welcome to the Post Hotel.” The missive imparted pleasant feelings.

“This is an amazing place,” Taylor said. Suddenly he was behind her, wrapping his hands around her waist and pivoting her to face him.
