Andy stared at Jake and then averted his eyes. "He seemed

different than the rest. Sad, almost."

Jake considered Andy's hunched frame and shook

his head sadly. "Andy, you have to consider everything

they did and said as part of their messed up violation of

you. All of it was done with specific intention to confuse

you, make you believe that it was your fault and that they

didn't do anything wrong. You can't allow that."

"I know you're right, Jake. I mean, you know,"

Andy said as he played with his spoon. "But this guy, I

don't know. It seemed like he didn't want to be there either.

He tried to help me, and he didn't seem like part of the

group."

"Who is this guy? Does he have a name?" Jake

asked.

Andy caught himself before giving away Brian's

name. He didn't want to face any of them again, and he

didn't want Jake or anyone forcing him to.

Jake sighed as he saw Andy's defences rise up again

and the self-protecting mist cloud his eyes again. "Are we

liking the soup?" he added after a moment.

Andy nodded slowly and offered a small smile. Jake

knew it would be a while, but the Andy they once knew
