Annual Digging

Remember maintaining your garden is going to include annual digging. Many first-time enthusiasts consider this to be extremely unnecessary and difficult. This is because a large number of plants which a garden bed contains ought not to be disturbed for two or three years while others must not be lifted until after a much longer lapse of time.

However, digging is necessary, because weekly hoeing only keeps the upper soil in good condition. The earth beneath that, into which the root systems of the plants have penetrated, becomes hard and impacted in the course of the season. This earth has to be aerated.
