Chapter 6

“I need a favor,” I hedged as I interrupted Dor in the library. The man always had his head buried in books when Wyatt was working, having his own job as a historian. Well, he rewrote history now that humans know about paranormals in the world.

“And have you done anything to win my favor?” he asked in a clipped tone, not even looking at me.

I winced. “That hurts, Dor. I think I’ve done a lot since you got here to win your favor and be your friend. I understand being upset because there was drama and issues that hurt your cousin, but I thought you cared about me also. He hurt me too. Neither of us meant to though and I would think that would be the point you’d realize and your anger wouldn’t be warranted. Just forget it.”

I turned on my heel and stormed out. I understood when he was mad before, thinking I had disrespected his cousin and not treated him right. I even let him get away with slapping me because it seemed I had needed a good smack to see what was really going on with Aldis instead of what I’d thought… Namely him not wanting me as I wanted him.

However, I would have thought risking four years of my life and potentially being stuck in a mating with a man who wanted to get away from me just so I had the chance to show him how I really felt would have proven to Dor I was the person he thought I was. I just could be stupid at times. Then again who couldn’t?

“Gawain, wait, please,” Dor called out as I got to the door. “I’m sorry. You’re right. You saved Aldis when he needed you to step up.”

“That’s me, always the hero,” I mumbled bitterly and turned back to him. “I’m not as noble as all that, Dor. I wanted him as mine. I never meant to hurt him though. I was brokenhearted because I thought he didn’t want something real from me.”

“I get that now. It’s just, wow, we’ve got cluster fucks all over the place and I’m having trouble catching my breath.”

“Understandably,” I agreed. I felt the same. How could I not with everything going on?

“What’s the favor, my friend?” He gave me a genuine but weak smile.

“Do you know Aldis’s ex-lover? This David?” I hedged as I sat down on the wooden chair at the table Wyatt had at the library. Dor studied me from his seat across it, tilting his head as if the change in perspective would give him more insight.

“Can I ask first if Aldis is still crying?” His tone was soft, but I could hear the worry.

“I promise Aldis and I have worked past most of our issues, he understands why I made the conditions I did, and that this is real to me.” I smirked as only a man could when he thoroughly stated his lover. “I’ve claimed him and I promise he hasn’t cried in sadness for hours now.
