Chapter Eight

Cameron had to go back because he couldn’t just leave it like that. He couldn’t walk away all sad and depressed. That wasn’t who he was anymore. He couldn’t constantly be like that around a man he was trying to impress because that sort of drama wasn’t what was going to win Iver over.

He ran back to the great hall, thinking of all the things he could say to the other man to make up for rushing off like some little kid, and he spotted Iver already leaving.

No! Where was he going?

Cameron was in a panic. That was the excuse he was going to use for breaking the no-kissing promise because it was the only thing he could think of doing. The only thing that felt right as he rushed into Iver’s arms, throwing his hands around the man’s neck and pressing their lips together so hard and fast there was a sharp clash of teeth.

They immediately pulled away from each other, and the moment was ruined. A kiss like that should’ve been worthy of the movies, but of course, Cameron had to fuck that up as well.

“What are you doing?” Iver asked, and if he felt any pain, it wasn’t showing on his face. His hands were planted firmly on Cameron’s hips. He wasn’t even rubbing his jaw.

Which was exactly what Cameron was doing because dammit that had really hurt!

“I had to come back and see you. I shouldn’t have walked off like that. It wasn’t mature, and that’s not how I want to handle any misunderstandings we have. I’m sorry.”

To his shock, Iver shook his head, and there was even a smile on his face and everything. It was wonderful to see after the heart-thumping panic Cameron had just put himself through.

“No, don’t even worry about it. I put you through a lot. It makes sense that you would have certain thoughts like that. I wasn’t trying to say...fuck, I can’t even remember what we were talking about before you left.”

Cameron tried to think about it, too, but now that he was here, being held in Iver’s arms, he couldn’t exactly remember it either. He knew it but not the details. It was weird.

Either way, it didn’t matter, and he shook his head. “It doesn’t matter anyway. I don’t want to be like that around you. I want to be me around you, and I don’t want to have this fear that I’m going to say something bad, or that you’re going to have a double meaning to something you say. I know that’s not how you are.”

Iver winced. “You’re a lot more generous than I am. After what I put you through—”

“It doesn’t matter. We’re doing the fresh-start thing anyway, remember?”

The slow smile returned to Iver’s face, and it was so damned handsome, and looked so good on him, that when he nodded his head, Cameron wanted to kiss him again.

He leaned up to do exactly that. Iver leaned down, and fuck, was that kiss ever sweet.
