CHAPTER 11
Kyle
The evening had been perfect. In all the roleplaying Rand and I had done I’d never felt like his boy until that night. We had been halfway through the gifts when I’d figured out what was going on, and it was then that I finally realized that we didn’t have to sell it to my family anymore. It wasn’t an act, this was us. I was Rand’s boy, and for his part, Rand had found his inner Daddy.
He had effortlessly cared for me all evening. I hadn’t even had a chance to get hungry before a plate of food was placed in front of me. The food was all separated neatly so nothing touched. Through the games, he’d kept me close, congratulating me when I’d stacked the blocks the highest.
Looking back, that was the moment something in my head had begun to shift. He’d been genuinely proud of me, and it was easy to feel a sense of both happiness and accomplishment. But when I looked over to see his reaction, I hadn’t been looking at Rand. I’d been looking at my Daddy. Daddy was the one who praised me and celebrated my accomplishments. Rand had always supported me and been an open ear and a shoulder to cry on when I needed it, but he wasn’t as openly happy for me as Daddy was. It was addicting.
I liked making him happy.
I liked being happy.
I’d honestly never been so happy in all my life. I had a sexy boyfriend, but beyond that, he’d turned into the caring, attentive Daddy I hadn’t known I needed. When adult Kyle shut off, Daddy was there to keep little Kyle safe and that was exactly what had happened that night.
Kerri had told me I could keep the blocks and then we had gotten to open gifts. The more gifts we opened, the harder it had become for me to figure out who I was. I didn’t know if I was adult Kyle who was supposed to be playing around and pushing buttons with my new boyfriend or if I was little Kyle who was a bit overwhelmed at the attention being on us and, despite knowing it was technically fake, enjoying my gifts. At some point, my brain had decided it was easier to be little and enjoy my presents than be normal me and sort through questions I didn’t have answers to.
That hadn’t stopped my mind from subconsciously coming up with a million things I found fascinating, exciting, or just plain odd, but it had stopped them from needing to be vocalized immediately. As soon as everyone was gone, all the thoughts came to the forefront of my mind, and I had to get them out quickly.
Somewhere between discussing how green Clint had turned during the diaper game and chattering on about everything we’d gotten, Rand seemed to get overwhelmed. “That’s more than you’ve said since we started opening gifts. Give me a second to unpack all that.”
There was so much going on in my head I was having a hard time holding it in.
