Chapter 5
Chase stood on stage at the concert that night, but the lights weren’t quite as bright. He didn’t feel the song the way he should’ve. He was a performer, damn it. Not a puppet. So why couldn’t he get into the tune the way he had when Raylan watched him? Because Raylan wasn’t there.
So many thoughts ran through his mind as he strummed his guitar. The tying, the fucking, the passion between him and Raylan. He needed to put those emotions and actions into his songs. He stared out at the crowd. How many of the people watching him participated in such activities like he’d done with Raylan? Was he a freak for wanting to be tied up again? The tips of his ears burned. Damn. Whenever he thought about Raylan, he blushed. He really needed to stop showing his emotions so much.
If Raylan were there, the songs would flow easier. He finished his current song then visualized Raylan in the audience.
“This song is for someone special. He knows who he is.” Chase strummed the opening bars of an old doo wop love song, then launched in to the lyrics. He sang the tune as if he were singing directly to Raylan. Maybe he was. He loved Raylan—heart and soul. He wanted to give everything to his boyfriend and never look back. He wasn’t ashamed of himself or his feelings when he was with Raylan. He swept his gaze over the entirety of the crowd then embellished the bridge of the song. The audience clapped and bopped along with him. Nice.
Chase finished the song, bowed, and thanked his crowd. “You’ve been wonderful. Thank you for making me feel welcome.” He made his way off stage then plunked the guitar in his case.
“Do that every week, or at least every other week, and I might have room for you as a house artist,” the manager remarked. “Sound feasible?”
“I’m sure I can.” Chase shook hands with the manager then accepted the twenty-dollar payment for his performance. “Thanks.” He strode out to his car then drove the short jaunt back to campus. Along the way, he drummed on the steering wheel and sang along with the songs on the radio. Life was definitely looking up.
He parked in front of his dorm then headed upstairs. He couldn’t wait to get to his room to write down his ideas for music inspired by Raylan. The head over heels feeling suited him and gave him a muse of his own. Once in his room, he opened the guitar case and plopped on his bed. He strummed the instrument, then jotted down ideas in his notebook as the beginnings of the song took shape in moments. He practiced the tune with the new words then played just the melody again.
God, having a muse was nice. He’d have new work to turn in for his songwriting class. He held the guitar on his lap, then picked up his phone and sent Raylan a text.
Played great tonight. Created new music.
