By the time everyone dispersed from the round table discussion, it wasn’t even noon. They’d sat and talked until they were blue in the face and were still unsure whether Lang really was storing his weapons on the reservation and worse yet, Thayne had no idea what kind of danger he and the rest of the people he loved were truly in. If he and Jarrett had to face a mercenary army, things were going to get crazy fast. The house wasn’t protected by walls and though it had an alarm system, it wasn’t sophisticated in the least.

The best defense they had was the group of agents in the house. Sarah, Mac, Tim, and Lincoln were all armed but only with their standard FBI and ATF issue firearms. Thayne and Jarrett were armed only with their sidearms. Thayne wore two guns all the time. as well as a knife on his belt, Jarrett carried his Glock in a shoulder holster and another smaller gun in his boot. He carried two knives, a Marine Corps issued KA-Bar on his hip and a smaller one hidden in a sheath inside his belt. That one was small but deadly.

Back home, Jarrett also generally carried a trunk full of crazy in the Nova which, though not technically legal, Thayne recognized as his Marine’s way of being prepared for anything that might happen. He’d tried to encourage Jarrett to put away his sniper rifle, flash bang grenades, and the backup ammo and body armor he always had at the ready. He’d been shut down more than once. Thayne understood Jarrett’s need to have the weapons at hand and he hadn’t bothered him after his explanation for them, risking the fact that their employer might not look kindly on Jarrett’s stash if they ever found out about it.

Since being ambushed and losing a close friend when they were in Turlock almost two years ago, Jarrett had kept them armed to the teeth. Thayne had to admit it was reassuring knowing that the weapons were there. Unfortunately, that firepower was in Los Angeles and nowhere near them. After the meeting, they all had decided that just to be safe, they needed more firepower. It was Arizona after all. They could purchase assault weapons and take them home the same day and that was exactly what they planned on doing to pass the afternoon.

Dot and Mark headed out to the hospital to visit Oscar who was recovering fast. Thayne knew his dad would protect Dot if anyone came near her. Jarrett had explained that his father was a crack shot and knew how to handle a gun. The Company required that he get recertified regularly, just like any other law enforcement agency, though technically, spooks weren’t considered law enforcement since they operated on foreign soil. Mark taught Jarrett and his three brothers to shoot and he carried a CIA issue firearm all the time. Dot might not be in any danger but Thayne wasn’t going to take any chances.
