Dominic navigated his car out of the parking garage and toward the road that would take them west to Seasons, a small resort filled with bungalows and no one under the age of twenty-one. Anika had attended a wedding there once, years ago, but hadn’t been back since. She’d heard the restaurant was nice, but honestly, despite not having any kids herself, she wasn’t a fan of places that didn’t allow them. Chalk it up to being raised in a large family where family was everything.

“Is Garza going to stick around?” Dominic asked. She was sitting beside him in the passenger seat, and she shot him a quick look to see if the question was coming from FBI Dominic or Snarky-Friend Dominic. It appeared to be the former, so she let her gaze drift back to the scenery and answered.

“Yes. If we don’t think it’s part of whatever is going on, and it lands back on his desk, he wanted to be there.” Dominic made a few turns, dodged some tourists, and merged onto the road that would take them west. They were leaving the outskirts of town when she spoke again. “What do you think is going on?” she asked. Then before he could answer, she clarified. “I mean, we suspect it has something to do with The Bank of DC, and if there was something going on with one or more of the accounts that the victims were involved in, I could see why someone would want to eliminate anyone who might be a loose end. It’s the Tildas Island connection that I don’t understand, and I think we all know there is a connection. We might not have found it yet, and when there were only two bodies it was still possible to consider it a coincidence. But with three?” She shook her head. “No, someone went to a lot of trouble not just to kill the three men, but to kill them here .”

She was curious about what Dominic thought, but she also understood that he, like she, didn’t have any answers, so when he didn’t answer right away, she settled into a comfortable silence and watched the scenery.

They were halfway to the resort, which was situated forty minutes from the FBI office, when Dominic answered. “You know, the team has been here for over a year and part of prepping for The Summit is getting to know the lay of the land, so to speak. In fact, that’s why they sent us down here in the first place. There’s always been a small FBI presence on the island, but when the Organization of World Leaders selected Tildas as the location of the event, the government realized they were lacking in any significant intel on the area and that’s how the task force came about.

“Since coming, we’ve done all the things we need to be doing to secure Hemmeleigh as the host resort, but we’ve also spent countless hours gathering intel on the island, and more specifically its criminal elements.
