I was giving a one-day workshop in Los Angeles. I do brief workshops like this one to offer people an introduction to shamanism and an experience of the healing practices. My hope is that after a taste of shamanic work they'll be drawn to further explore this path through the Light Body Energy Medicine School. I don't get to choose who will be moved or most changed by the insights and exercises. I simply show up for whatever Spirit decides to bring into the experience.
We were doing an exercise, and the participants were sitting cross-legged on the floor, partnered face-to-face. As I walked among them, waves of pain were washing over me. I scanned the auditorium of several hundred people and caught that it was coming from the far end of the room. Wave upon wave crashing over me with a force that had set off an internal alarm. My consciousness rode the waves until I found the source, an emotional tsunami coming from two students, a man and a woman. I watched as flashes of anger, fear, and disconnection sparked between them.
We were at the end of the morning session, which had been on soul retrieval. I had led them through a process for retrieving a lost soul part, explaining each of the four chambers of the soul: the Chamber of Wounds, the Chamber of Soul Contracts, the Chamber of Grace, and the Chamber of Treasures. The participants were invited to negotiate a fresh contract between themselves and Spirit, creating a new sacred agreement for their lives. At the conclusion of their journey, they were to âgiftâ their partners something that symbolized the essence of the lost soul part. A spiritual gift. To the beat of my drum, I had guided them through the steps so that they would have an experience of this shamanic practice.
We had just returned from the Chamber of Treasures. Something happened there for one of the participants. I slowly threaded my way to the back of the room. Tears were streaming down the woman's face. I knew George from a previous training and felt he was well meaning, if not the most sensitive person.
I reassured his partner, Sienna. I sensed that the grief she was experiencing would not be easily assuaged. That's when I sensed the voice of Spirit. Ask Sienna to be your subject for the demonstration.
âYou'll experience some relief,â I explained as I asked Sienna to participate in a demonstration after lunch. She agreed rather timidly.
