The next thing Christian knew with any real certainty beyond the warmth of a peaceful, easy slumber was the touch of Freddy’s mouth on his again. The brightness he could see even behind his closed eyelids told him that the morning was here too soon and that the snow had fallen through the night, settling on the heath.

“Do you do translations?” Freddy asked in a murmur, his tongue teasing softly along Christian’s jaw until his lips were nuzzling at his throat. “Because everything sounds better in Latin.”

“I’ll do my best.” Christian arched his neck, not sure he could think of anything if Freddy kept this up.

“How would I say—” Freddy suddenly fell silent and when he spoke again, his voice was alive with panic. “I need to use your phone!”

“How would—” Christian realized then that was a question that required an answer. “In the study, next door.”

With a quick kiss, Freddy sprang from the bed and dashed out of the bedroom. I was having too good a time last night, Doctor!”

“This should be everything you need.” Christian put the clothes onto the bed, hoping he looked as casual as he intended to. “If a little tweedy.”

“As I said”—Freddy let his gaze slide down before it darted back to Christian’s face—“it’s all a question of size, Dr. W.”

Christian blushed again as Freddy padded across the room toward him. With a glance at the clothes, the Scot walked on past until there was mere inches between them. He reached out and slipped his arms around Christian’s waist, holding them close, their bodies pressed together.

“I thought maybe we could share my car into town.” Freddy ended the sentence with a soft kiss. “And after my meeting, get some breakfast and see what the day brings? If you’re very, very lucky, maybe we’ll be back in bed by lunchtime.”

That seemed a long way from one night, and one night had already blossomed into dinner and a show and, maybe, another night. Where would it end, Christian wondered, even
