Yaro hadn’t said a word since Legend walked away. It was terrifying. There had been very few times he had seen Yaro this upset, and they had been through some horrible shit no one should have to see. They could have gone after Legend. Pytor thought they should have, but Yaro had stood like a statue, watching Legend walk away before stonily swinging his gaze between Pytor and Henry. Then he had walked away. Yaro reclaimed their table, paid their bill, and then went back to work. Pytor knew his husband well and his hard mask hid a storm of emotions that could spill at any moment in any form.

The moment they were alone inside their bedroom, Pytor broke. He couldn’t take the silence any longer. Pytor couldn’t take the guilt. “We should go find him.”

Yaro yanked open the dresser drawer with enough force Pytor expected it to fall apart in his hand. He kept his face turned away as he pulled out some clothes. “You don’t want to know what I think.”

“Yes, I do. We have to be together on this—like all things.”

Yaro tossed him a glance that should have killed him on the spot. “Did you not hear anything he said? Being together on everything drove him away. We are so fucking together on everything, he felt unwelcome. This is not what he needs. We are not what he wants. The right thing to do is to let Henry give him the life he deserves.”

It was like being stabbed repeatedly. “What he deserves is us. Henry does not love him. We do.”

With one last annoyed look his way, Yaro disappeared inside the bathroom, closing and locking the door behind him. Pytor stood and stared at the wooden object between them. They had never closed the bathroom door. In truth, Pytor hadn’t realized their bathroom even had a door. He was learning all sorts of new and horrible things today.
