Alex woke to the novel sensation of being the little spoon. It wasn’t something he’d spent a lot of time worrying about, and his masculinity wasn’t so fragile that he shunned the idea of being held. He’d never been any kind of spoon before. It was really nice.

He smiled to himself and pressed closer to Liam.

“You keep doing that and it’s going to be a more interesting morning than you’re expecting,” Liam murmured from behind him.

“Who says I’m not looking for an interesting morning?” he asked.

Chuckling, Liam slid his right hand back and forth across Alex’s chest and then slowly down his abdomen. He leaned forward and ran his teeth across the shell of Alex’s ear. “How interesting are we talking?”

Alex leaned his head into the pillow to further bare his neck. He was pretty sure that for the first time ever, he was about to willingly miss practice with the band.

A phone went off. It wasn’t his, thank goodness, but it didn’t sound like Liam’s either. It also elicited a different reaction. Liam sat straight up in bed and pushed the covers out of the way, heading out of the room like the fire alarm was going off.

Confused, Alex looked at the alarm clock on the nightstand. Six a.m. That was when he realized that there had been two phones sitting on the nightstand. Liam had left one behind.

He could clearly hear Liam’s voice in the other room, though. Something was going on. Ignoring his nakedness, he got up and wandered out into the other room.

The conversation they’d had about things Liam couldn’t tell him popped into his head. Liam had seemed so earnest about it, so convinced that it would be something important to Alex, and Alex had ignored it with such determination.

He shouldn’t have done that, of course. He’d just been so happy to meet someone, a nice guy who had immediately attracted him, and been attracted to him. He still had a hard time imagining that sweet, kind Liam would be lying about anything Alex would find unacceptable.

“—knows about it?” Liam was saying into the phone as Alex walked in. He glanced up at Alex but didn’t seem too concerned to see him there, just frustrated with the conversation. “I know that, but he gave me explicit orders on what I’m supposed to be doing. You’ve talked to him about this?”

There was a long pause, and Liam’s face grew more thunderous. Alex was worried that he was going to hunt down the person on the other end of the line and hurt them.

Instead, he seemed to get a handle on his anger. His face cleared, and he nodded. “I understand. I’ll be there.” He hung up the phone as he said the last word, ignoring social niceties, and looked up at Alex. “Sorry. Work.”

“You have to go?” Alex asked. He already knew the answer, but asking seemed like the right thing to do.

“Yeah,” Liam agreed. He crossed the living room and wrapped his arms around Alex, tossing the phone on the couch behind him first.
