We pull up outside Big Move, and I can’t help but once again be baffled as to why he wants our company. The place is clearly bigger than ours. There are twice as many vans, and the building where the offices are is a lot bigger too. To the side is a warehouse with the metal rolling doors rolled halfway up.

Forklifts are moving loads in and around the warehouse, something we don’t do or are equipped to do.

“This really doesn’t make sense, man. He has a good set up here. And he must do good to stay in business.”

“I know. I’m taking a wild guess and saying this is personal to either one of us or to a client of ours.”

“Yeah, me too,” he murmurs as he steps out of the car. “But none of us know who he is.”

The office is a smaller building next to the warehouse. We head over to the door, pulling it open and letting the cold air breeze through.

The receptionist looks up, a smile on her face. “Hello, welcome to Big Move. How can I help you today?”

Wyatt steps forward. “Hey darlin’. What’s a pretty little thing like you doing in a place like this.”

The girl blushes, dropping her pen at his compliment. “I, um, it’s just until I find something else.”

“I bet. How long have you worked here?”

“I moved here with the company when we opened not long ago. Mr Black needed someone who was already trained.”

“How come they moved here?” Wyatt asks, pretending to be interested, yet not too interested in her answer. “I mean, the place has other branches. Why another one here?”

Her face lights up, and she leans forward. “Don’t tell Mr Black I told you this because he’d fire me, but when his dad made him director of the company, he told him he had to get profits up by so much before the end of next year or he would be cut off.”

“How’s he doing with that?” Wyatt asks, dipping his voice a little.

She scrunches her nose up. “Well, not so good. We’ve actually lost a little business since he started over. A lot of the old clients don’t want to be involved. He did try to hit up this art dealer or someone big, but the guy turned him down. And not nicely either,” she explains. “Wait, are you potential clients?”

When she looks close to panicking, Wyatt reaches out, tugging on a piece of hair. “Darlin’ we just came in to see Mr Black. Glad we got you though. So glad,” he drawls.

She blushes further, and I’d groan if it weren’t for the fact we just got something.

“Who was the client he approached?” I ask curiously.

“What are you doing, Jessica?” Black calls sharply, before he steps out of a doorway.

He looks up and sees us, his expression hardening. “Hayes.”

I grin. “Black.”

“Um,” Jessica murmurs, looking from him to us. She’s probably pissing herself for giving us so much information.

“You’ve come to accept my offer?”

Slowly, I take a few steps towards him.
