A light beams in from the outside, penetrating my eyelids. I stretch and try my best not to disturb Connor on this cot we migrated to last night. My heart is finally at peace knowing Connor is back in my arms where he belongs, but the heavy burden of knowing Conroy is still with us has a weight bearing down on my soul.

I’ve got to find a way to get the motherfucker gone and not let Mary or James know. They went through enough shit at his sick-ass hands. Well, I’m not exactly sure how my brother would react, but I’m not willing to chance it.

I stare at Connor’s sleeping face a moment longer before my bladder screams at me to get up. Quietly, I ease out of the bed and walk outside to see a little bit of sunshine, but the gloomy clouds are rolling back in, so this piece of serenity is about to get nasty again.

I walk over to the overgrown bushes beside the cabin and unzip my jeans. Pulling my dick out, I yawn and freeze when the bushes rustle beside me. I don’t have losing my cock to a lizard on my death bucket list, so I quickly try to stuff it back in, then yelp when I end up zipping some of the skin in the zipper. I try desperately to keep my scream muffled as vomit works its way up my throat.

“Damn, mister. That sure looks like it hurts,” a small voice says, causing me to quickly turn around. I jerk my hips back quickly while snatching my pants forward and cry behind sealed lips when the skin parts from the metal bars of death. Thank fuck my piercings didn’t get caught.

“Why is it, when my dick is out, you little shits seek me out?” I ask the little boy apparition in front of me. Billy definitely cursed me on his way to the other side if this is the shit I’m going to have to deal with every investigation we do. This kid looks a lot younger than Billy did, however. His little T-shirt is ripped and blood covers him in places, almost like he was permanently stuck in this form upon his death. His shorts look like they were tan at one point, but the horror that day the park faced is forever imprinted on him. He’s also missing a shoe.

“I’m sorry. I just wanted to find my mommy. I’m scared and I don’t know where I am,” the boy responds before dropping his head to walk away.

Fuck my bleeding heart.

“Wait! I’m sorry. What’s your name?” I kneel to his level and try to appear gentle.

“I’m Andy. I’ve had to hide a really long time and I think my mommy forgot about me.” Even though I can almost see right through this kid, he looks like he has tears dripping down his face. Jane chooses that moment to appear as she yips happily, and I see the boy light up slightly when a smile pulls at his mouth.
