CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Monday, January 21, 2019
REX AWOKE EARLY ON MONDAY MORNING FEELING better than he had in a long time. He’d taken some downtime over the weekend, keeping an eye on the plumbing and electrical, but opting not to do anything that would get in the way of progress. Not the sort who enjoyed being sidelined, Rex was eager to get the day started and to jump into the next phase of his project.
With a renewed sense of purpose, he showered and dressed, then headed to the kitchen to make coffee, grab a protein bar. The new windows were being installed today and Rex wanted to be ready and available for when they showed.
All was quiet when he sat at the breakfast bar while the coffee brewed, so Rex did his best to keep the noise to a minimum, figuring Jack was asleep.
Although he suspected it was a fluke and not a sign of things to come, Rex couldn’t stop thinking about Friday night. About the way Jack had watched him in the hot tub. Although neither of them had mentioned what happened, Rex was very aware that it had. Despite the distance between them, something had connected them to that moment.
Granted, Jack probably hadn’t realized it, but the light on the front of the workshop had been left on, which had cast the perfect glow over him, allowing Rex to see exactly what he was doing, even from down below. And there was no denying Jack had been stroking himself as he watched Rex do the same.
Rex hadn’t expected it. Not the incident and certainly not the way it made him feel. With every passing second, Rex found himself growing tired of pretending nothing was going on between them. Sure, he knew it could merely be curiosity on Jack’s part. He’d even considered that he might be curious, too. After all, Rex had never been with a man who hadn’t known who he was, what he wanted.
Jack might be merely curious, but Rex sensed there was an underlying need that had never been sated. It seemed the longer he was there, the stronger it got.
As for whether or not that could lead to something more, Rex wasn’t sure. And he knew he couldn’t waste any more time worrying about it, either.
