1500: Ever wondered where all the beautiful pot plants and flowers decorating municipal offices in Paris come from? They are grown in the greenhouses at Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil, where more than 100,000 plants per year are produced on a site that has served as a botanical garden for more than two centuries.

Enchanting and tropical in equal measures, the botanical garden sits on the southeastern fringe of Bois de Boulogne in western Paris and is one of the city’s most Zen retreats. Beyond it, the Bois de Boulogne itself offers Paris’ second-biggest park, modelled in part on London’s Hyde Park.
