Sawney paced alongside the edge of the road as he waited for rescue, going back and forth in a small little area. Every few minutes he would look up and scan whichever direction he was facing, searching for signs of a vehicle. Minutes passed, maybe hours. Time seemed to stand as still as the breath in his lungs.

Ricky was missing.

They had been able to figure out that they had been knocked out during the crash. For how long, no one was sure, but it had been long enough for someone to pry open the passenger side door and pull Ricky out, taking him away.

Sawney clenched his fists as another wave of burning hot anger rolled through him. He had no idea if Ricky was hurt or scared or what. He only knew his mate was alive. He could feel the bond between them still pulsing.

“Headlights, Sawney,” Boston called out.

Sawney swung around storming across the cold hard ground to stand next to Boston and Harper. He spared a quick glance at his friends, wincing at the cuts and abrasions all over them. Being in the front of the vehicle when it crashed, they had sustained the brunt of the impact.

“You two look like shit.”

Boston glared. “You sweet talker, you.”

Sawney shrugged. “I’m just saying…” They looked like they had been in an auto accident. Sawney was positive if they hadn’t been able to shift and heal the worst of their injuries, they’d be dead right now.

He turned when the vehicle bearing down on them slowed and then pulled off to the side of the road. It wasn’t until it came to a complete stop and the blaringly bright headlights went off that Sawney realized it was a police vehicle. When the door opened and a tall, black-haired man climbed out, some of the tension in his shoulders relaxed.

“Thank you for coming, Boone.” He doubted he was ever so grateful to see his half brother in his life.

The tall sheriff stopped right in front of them, his eyes assessing each of them, widening when he saw Boston and Harper. “You two look like shit.”

Sawney tucked his lips in when his friends both turned to look at him.

Boone glanced at the smashed vehicle, a small whistle passing his lips as he stared at the wreckage. “They really had a hard-on for you, didn’t they?”

“They took my Ricky,” Sawney growled as his anger rose to the surface again. “I’m taking him back.”
