that only intimate contact like this could bring. It was the most peaceful Logan could ever remember feeling. Then she froze.
This simply could not be happening between them.
Logan abruptly ended the kiss. Hell, it was just the stress of the situation and an antidote to the stress, she told herself.
Jillian needed the physical contact to feel safe, to feel alive, and she…she needed it to convince herself that Jillian was indeed safe and alive. Her body cried out for what Jillian could not give her and for what Logan would never allow. I wouldn’t, would I? God, why do I always have to be the noble one?
“Jill,” she whispered.
Jillian leaned forward, reestablishing a firm connection. Oh, God , Logan thought, just before her rational mind completely abandoned her. I am going to go to hell for this. Passion welled within her…consuming her like a fire being fed oxygen. It was licking its way up her legs and straight into her soul.
If this were a dream, she should wake up now. But…this was real. Jillian in her arms. Jillian’s mouth on hers just a moment ago.
Their bodies molded together again. Logan’s thigh just inches away from insinuating itself between Jillian’s legs. It was really happening. As Logan opened her mouth, to say “yes,” Jillian moaned—a soft, desperate, lost moan.
The forlorn sound crystallized…everything. In that instant Logan realized she was prepared to do anything for Jillian.
Anything, that is, except make love to her tonight. That she could not do, not with a married woman and not with a woman in such obvious distress.
Logan put a little more distance between them. “You need to sleep, Jill. I am going to keep my arms around you and hold you, okay? And in the morning,” she ground her teeth, “in the morning, sweetheart, you get to head home. Home to peace and quiet and greenness and some people who are going to be very, very happy to see you…”
Jillian nodded against her, her body sagging into Logan’s.
Logan clutched the smaller woman tightly to her and felt Jillian begin to drift off. There would be little sleep for Logan tonight.
