Chapter FourteenLydia suppressed a yawn as she sipped coffee with one hand and reached for the spa's appointment book with the other. It was seven-thirty in the morning, a full hour earlier than the spa's normal opening time. Casey had called her late last night to let her know that Bridget, one of their part-time helpers, had a family emergency and wouldn't be in today. Then Casey had gone on to explain that she had booked a party of first-timers before she found out about Bridget.

Today was supposed to be Lydia's ‘boss’ day, but Lydia had found out long ago that anything could happen when it came to running your own business, and being the owner meant absolutely nothing when you ran that business on a budget as tight as theirs.

She and Casey scrubbed the floors, instead of hiring a cleaning service, along with a hundred and one other chores that went along with owning a business. They had talked about raising the prices so they could afford more help, or at the very least a cleaning service to do the grunt work, but in the end she and Casey had decided against it.

Her dropped jaw coincided with Casey's hasty explanation.

"I should have told you, I know, but I was afraid you'd try to re-schedule the party."

"I would have.” Lydia's shock receded to a dull ache behind her eyes. She rubbed her temples. “I would have given them the entire spa for the day, just to avoid the headache I'm getting right now. Have you forgotten the chaos just one of these guys caused the last time?"

Casey dumped her purse and the magazines in a chair and hopped onto a corner of the desk with her latte. “Yeah, but can you deny they were good for business?"

"We have more than enough business. In fact, we're booked two weeks ahead right now, and you've got vacation time coming up.” The reminder didn't seem to faze Casey, and Lydia wondered if her lack of interest over pending vacation time had anything to do with Brett's recent neglect.

"We're wasting time arguing a moot point, aren't we?” Casey checked her watch. “They'll be here at ten. Our first appointment arrives at eight. With any luck, we'll have them all out of here by the time our party of hunks arrives."

Lydia belatedly noticed that Casey wore a
