I spent the next two days getting everything in order and finishing up a few things at work. I spent the evenings making sure I had everything I would need for the trip. I tried on my bathing suit and decided that it was kind of bland for a trip like this one so I went out shopping for something new. I ended up splurging and buying two new bathing suits. Which I absolutely reasoned was a good buy as they were separates and I could mix and match them, so it was like buying four for the price of two. The sales lady got me and in the end I walked out with the two bathing suits, three wraps that matched the suits, a big floppy hat, and two pairs of flip flops â totaling more than three hundred dollars on my credit card that was meant for emergencies only.
Jenny picked me up at four on Saturday morning and drove me to the airport. On the plane I found that I was seated near the other three people that had won the trip through the same travel agency. The four of us together made an interesting bunch. The other woman, Amber, had just turned twenty-one and was a total airhead. All she talked about was all the guys she was going to âhook-up withâ on the ship. Fred was a tall, nerdy looking twenty something with thick glasses and short black hair. I had to suppress laughter when he told me, âMy Mommy is not very happy that I am going to be away so long.â Then there was Patrick; he was a decent looking middle age divorcee. He seemed like a very nice, genuine guy until I watched him actually lick his chops as Amber walked away from us to go to the restroom on the plane. I was secretly wondering if he was married. He probably told his wife this was some business trip that he was on.
I was relieved that I had packed lightly, after we got off the plane and retrieved our luggage we had to walk almost half a mile to where the bus would be waiting for us. Then it was another thirty-minute drive to the dock. By the time we got there all I could think of was getting on the ship and into my cabin just to be away from Amber who hadnât stopped talking since we had boarded the plane and introduced ourselves.
Thankfully there were people to help me figure out where to go, because the dock was large and packed with people. As more and more people joined the crowd I entertained myself people watching as I waited in line, I knew I wasnât going to know anyone, but it was fun to look around and see what all the men in the crowd looked like. As the line inched forward I saw a familiar looking man staring at me from afar and my breath caught in my chest. Ted? The line moved again and I was gently pushed from behind to get moving.
