Chapter Eleven

Landon

She’s at school when she should be here with me, sitting beside me while I work. Fuck, I’ve gotten greedy with her attention, and now I crave it. I need her like I need to breathe. Some would say it’s crazy and obsessive and they’d be correct, but I don’t give a shit because she’s the only thing in my life that matters anymore, and that feels fucking incredible.

My desk phone buzzes, and it’s my assistant. “Yes, Miss Williams.” It’s been two days since the incident in my conference room, and she has been on her best behavior so we have all decided to put it behind us.

“Your ten o’clock is waiting in conference room A for your meeting. Would you like lunch ordered, or should I wait?” she asks with every bit of the professionalism I’ve come to expect from my employees.

“Please wait. I’ll step out and ask, but have the coffee and water bottles set up.”

“They’re already there.”

“Thank you,” I reply.

“You’re welcome.” I end the call and adjust my suit. Presenting an excellent exterior makes the sale a lot of times. These men see my formidable size and immediately believe that I’m personally going to be guarding their buildings.

Grabbing my portfolio and tablet, I step out of my office and give my assistant a polite nod before heading into the conference room down the hall.

“Good morning, Mr. Crawley, Mr. Roland,” I greet them as I enter the room, setting my materials down on the table.

“Thank you for seeing us today, Mr. Black,” Mr. Crawley says.

“Do you personally guard places yourself?” Mr. Roland asks, looking me up and down.

“Rarely. I only worry about my family now.”

“Family?” they ask together.

“Yes, I’ll be getting married soon.” They look at each other and then back at me. “Enough about that. Let us get down to business. You’re asking for a lot of new systems for your building, which is going to take a lot of renovation because it’s extremely outdated.”

“That we know,” Roland sighs.

“Yes. We’ve had the company for the past forty years, and it’s moving into this new internet age that’s forced us to innovate.”

“Yes, I understand, and I’ll be figuring that into the numbers. As with many companies of the past, you’re taking on an expense that is new and intense for your generation and for the most part, almost unfathomable to comprehend.”

“That is an understatement. Everything can be stolen from us in a heartbeat with these cyber thieves.”

“And that’s what my company is here to prevent. We’re the best of the best for a reason.”

“Good, good. So what we’re looking for is around forty-five hundred square feet of physical space and years of growing digital work.”

“My team has already gone over the general vicinity and we’ve determined that you’ll need these specific items. Please look over each one, and I’ll explain them to show you why we insist on their necessity. These, of course, are all the bare bones of the packages because we understand that this overhaul
