Rivalry

Two medics entered, Lerner moved away as they attempted to locate a pulse on the alien. It was almost consensus, its eyelids flickered rapidly. The medics were at a loss they looked at each other confused.

“Anything?” one asked

“Not sure I think I’ve located what I think-? May be a pulse but it’s very erratic,”

“Ok let’s get it upstairs” they both lifted the alien, awkwardly struggling through the narrow walkway, the others stood helpless, looking at each other with confusion and excitement. As the medics exited the craft, others appeared with a gurney ready to receive the alien,

Hurriedly, the medics lifted the alien onto the trolley, and then proceeded to the lift opposite the craft.

“Christ that was incredible” Jayne looked at her mother still motionless in the other pod; how did she get in here? In addition, who was the other person that entered with her?

“I will get her out of there I promise,” Miles sounded certain of his abilities, Jayne smiled at him hopefully.

“I hope you right” Jayne was not sure this would happen, even if he did get her out, would she be ok. Her mother looked as young as she did. Jayne knew she would also have to explain how her husband died, how she was presumed dead or missing, so much to tell her.

How would she take it? Jayne felt very worried about this.

“You must see this?” Alex shouted,

“What have you found?” Miles said as he stood next to Alex.

“I'm not sure; I think it maybe a video file? A few frames played then it stopped” Alex tapped the screen, in the hope that it would continue.

“Let’s have a look” Miles put his hand on the surface in front of the screen, at that moment, what seemed like a holographic control panel appeared,

“And what do we have here?” Miles attempted to activate the panel by touching the symbols that were lit up.

“We need a frame of reference, we have no idea what these symbols mean” Miles was getting frustrated; He just continued to aimlessly touch various symbols, with no success.

“Why isn’t it working?” he said

Miles`s frustration grew he turned away, Alex then tried nothing doing,

“Shall I try?” Jayne sounded confident; the two boys looked on,

Jayne extended her finger, she touched what looked like a key, and it lit up, a harmonic sound accompanied the press. Alex turned to Miles, looking hopeful. Jayne smiled, a technician stood next to her filming it.

Jayne turned looked straight at the camera, looking back she touched another key; this also lit up with an audible sound.

Jayne excitedly pressed another with the same result, the next nothing, she continued, and pressed three more in succession; with the last selection, an image appeared above the desk.

“Its holographic interface” Miles said rather pleased.

It was about the size of a good 50” TV screen; you could walk around it completely, it was viewable from all angles, yet opaque when looked at directly, was the best description,
