Which part is edible: the nuts.

Pecans are one of the most popular nuts in the world, especially in the United States. The trees are very large, growing as tall as a 120 ft. This is a deciduous tree and is found throughout the south.

It is a member of the hickory family and its nuts are edible with a rich flavor. Some describe it as “buttery”. While technically not a nut, the fruit is called a “drupe” because it is encased in a husk that opens to reveal the nut inside.

Pecans trees have been known to live as long as 300 years and will bear fruit this entire time. A diet rich in pecans has been said to reduce the risk of gallstones in women. Pecans may also be important to neurological health and have a delaying factor in nerve degeneration, particularly in muscles. These can be found in many southern states, especially in Georgia.
