Chapter Ten…What’s doing?

“Who the hell is calling me now?” Wanda muttered as she batted at the noise with a large hand. She’d fallen asleep at her kitchen table when the ringing noise started. She thought it was a mosquito buzzing around her face. She swatted at the insect and missed. The clunk of a bottle hitting the floor meant she’d knocked over a half a bottle of good scotch. She knew it was scotch because she could smell the contents as it leaked onto the rug at her feet.

“Shit!” She struggled to stand unsteadily and then leaned down to rescue the last of her scotch. “Freaking shit!” she yelled, looking at the wet rug and the nearly empty bottle in her hand. She was tempted to wring the rug out over the bottle to get some of the liquor back into the bottle. The only problem was she couldn’t remember when she last washed the goddamned rug. Besides, her belly didn’t feel up to handling the crud on the rug.

She patted her stomach gingerly and then lifted her T-shirt to look at her bruises. That freaking doctor punched her gut real good. Who woulda guessed the bitch was some kind of boxer on the side. She frowned at the bluish-purple bruise marks in the middle of her gut. That wasn’t going to stop her from getting Beth back into her life. She glanced at the dirty dishes in the sink and the overflowing trash can. She sniffed the air and realized the stink she smelled was funk from the trash and her sweaty body.

If Beth were here, she’d get her whipped into shape in no time. That was what she did before and that was what she needed tonight. She’d have the kitchen looking tidy and smelling good. She’d wash the dishes and put them away. The rugs would be clean and fluffy. There’d be no stinking garbage to put out and her liquor cabinet would be full. Cold beers would be waiting in the fridge for her to pop open and guzzle down. Her bedroom would smell clean. Her sheets would be clean and soft against her skin. They’d smell like Beth had hung them outside to dry. God, she missed Beth’s attention to those little details that she hated doing. That her body was as responsive as a musician’s finely tuned instrument added another plus to her relationship with Beth.

Wanda closed her eyes as she imagined touching Beth between her legs until she reached one of those long-winded climaxes. Her imagination ran wild. She unzipped her pants, all set to finger her pussy, when the phone interrupted her. Thoroughly irritated at being disturbed, she snatched up the phone, then barked into it. “What!”

Kevin frowned at the angry tone in Wanda’s voice. Did she always answer her phone that way? It’d cut down on telemarketers. “Wanda, it’s Kevin.”

Wanda sighed. “What do you want, Kid?”

Kevin drew a deep breath, then let a dam of words loose in a rush before he could think about them and stop.
