Chapter 10

“Where are we going?” I asked. Henry had suddenly informed me that he wanted to take me out to somewhere. After a tired day at work, all I wanted was to rest and have some alone time, maybe watch a movie with Ashton even. Ashton was the worst kind of person to watch a movie. He would get as silent as a brick wall, concentrating on every nook and cranny of the movie whereas I was the kind who had to comment on everything and had to have an opinion about stuff. But I was willing to take that up as well for the sake of relaxing at this moment.

Henry looked at me sideways, his mouth stretched into a smile. He always seemed to smile around me, whenever and wherever and I couldn’t look at him because of everything that I had done behind his back. Theo had texted me once after that day that he wouldn’t let me go that easily and that he’s going to make me fall for him first.

“You will see,” he said, “This place is special to me as well and I want to show it to you. I hope you aren’t afraid of the dark.”

I shook my head, giving him a look, “I appreciate you making up surprises for me but that doesn’t mean, you will always keep me in suspense.”

“I like giving you surprises, especially when it’s about me,” he said further. The roads were dark and the street sides were deserted but it was beautiful nonetheless. Stars gleamed in the clear sky tonight. It had rained about an hour back. Everything smelled of something sad and something that made me feel nostalgic. I loved the after smell of rain. It was beautiful.

It was another fifteen minutes of riding in the car, before finally coming to a stop on the very outskirts of the city. The land was elevated and the city lights could be seen very far away. In front of us lay a water body, a huge one. The sides were shaded by dark, tall trees, looming their branches several feet above the water. Cicadas and night insects chirped all around us. It was beautiful and sweet to the ears. I couldn’t help but stare at the place for a long time. The scents of unknown flowers and unknown leaves wafted to my nose. My mind spoke only one word to me—romantic.

“How do you come up with such ideas?” I turned to look towards him, only to find out that a blanket was spread on the grassy field and candles were lit in candelabras, smelling of a sweet fragrance. My mouth fell open.

“Do you like it?” Henry looked just like the angel I had seen in the restaurant. Such a stark difference between him and his brother. It was almost like he was the light and his brother was the dark.

I slowly came forward and sat down beside him on the blanket.

“I always like these things that you do for me,” I couldn’t help but say.
