Outside, the night air is crisp and sobering. I hurry after Noah, grabbing his arm. His bicep firm beneath my fingers.

“Slow down,” I call after him. “We can’t all afford a personal trainer.”

He stops and turns around. “You sure you don’t want to go back inside and hang out with Charlie?”

I catch my breath. “Give me a break, Noah. Don’t you get it? I was trying to make you jealous.”

He looks at me like I’m crazy. He’s probably right, because I might well be.

“Jealous?”

My voice comes out in wobbles. “Ever since that moment we had, I can’t stop thinking about you.”

Noah takes a step closer, and his eyes dart to my lips. He wets his own with the tip of his tongue. My pulse quickens. Slowly, he lifts his hand to cradle my face, and I revel in his warm and electric touch. Unable to resist any longer, I close the distance between us. Our lips meet, soft and seeking at first. Noah tastes of beer, and his stubble scratches my skin. The kiss deepens, our tongues entangling, and he pulls me tighter with a low, vibrating groan. When we finally break for air, he manages a shaky laugh.

“Wow. So, that happened.”

Dizzy with desire, I lean in for more, but he steps back.

“We should take this slowly.” His voice is thick and low. “I don’t want either of us rushing into something we’ll regret.”

Though longing throbs through every fibre of my being, his tenderness and care mean everything. I nod, exhaling the breath I’d been holding.

“Yeah, you’re right. It’s been a long day.”

As we walk back to the van, Noah slips his hand in mine. Our fingers intertwine, fitting perfectly together.
