Chapter 15
Drusus couldn’t get back to his villa fast enough. He and Caz had thrown on their clothes in the Tonroth’s undressing room without much care. His cockstand was tenting his syrtos, and he didn’t care. He’d stopped trying to fight his feelings.
At the villa, he fumbled with the key, managed to get the door unlocked, and practically fell into the entryway.
Caz started to follow him but stopped himself.
“Aren’t you coming in?” asked Drusus. That Caz might leave now, with both of them in such a state, was unthinkable.
“Do you want me to?” asked Caz.
Drusus flung the door wide. “Yes.”
“Are you sure?” asked Caz. “If I come in, something is likely to happen. Not supper and beer. I don’t want you to change your mind later and regret it.”
“I won’t regret it.” Every inch of Drusus burned for Caz. “Come in.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Caz stepped inside.
Drusus threw the door shut, shoved Caz against the wall, and kissed him hungrily. For years, his body had waited for this, and he was not waiting any longer. It occurred to him, dimly, that he had once felt intimidated by the idea of kissing. No longer.
What a different experience it was, kissing a man. He’d kissed Timien, but they’d been boys at the time. He had not felt the rough stubble against his face, the size and power of Caz. He’d kissed women, too, but they felt fragile. One had to be careful with them. Nothing Drusus could do was going to break Caz; with this man, he could let his passions run wild.
Caz gave as good as he got, and for a moment, Drusus wasn’t sure who was kissing whom. He stumbled backward, pushed by Caz, to the opposite side of the entryway. His back hit the wall and Caz pinned him there.
Caz’s breath was ragged. “You sure you’ve never done this before?”
“I told you about Timien.”
Caz kissed him again. “Not the same thing.”
No, it wasn’t. Drusus and Timien had been tentative and uncertain. Some of what they’d tried Drusus had enjoyed, and some of it he hadn’t. Back then, his desires had been like an eddy in a pond, powerful but circling, lacking direction. Now his desire was a broad river, moving relentlessly forward.
Drusus found that he liked being shoved against the wall. His fantasies often took this form, with someone doing something to him that he was helpless to prevent. He wondered if Caz had fantasies too, and what they might be.
“If we don’t move to your bed soon,” said Caz, “I’m going to spill in my smallclothes.”
Drusus pushed Caz off him and led him to the bedroom.
The shutters were open. Not wanting to give the neighbors a show, Drusus took a moment to close them. The daylight was fading. Dim sunlight filtered through the cracks in the shutters to cast a narrow grid of light onto the bed.
As he crossed the room back to Caz, he caught a glimpse in the mirror of his flushed face and mussed hair. For a moment, he was taken aback, surprised by the stranger in his mirror.
