Chapter Six

Thoughts of Van were still lingering in Fang’s mind as he dangled a glass tumbler between his fingers and stared down into the cool amber liquid. It shouldn’t, but it bothered the hell out of Fang that he’d just taken off. Sitting in Waryl Locke’s office was not how he planned on spending his night. Curled up next to Van would’ve been a much better option.

But an order was an order, and the boss man had demanded that Fang report in person. Unfortunately, Fang didn’t have a choice. The one thing he loved about his job was that he could set his own hours. He also liked the fact that even though he was handed the assignment, how he went about completing it was totally up to him. As long as he brought in results he was left to his own devices, and he always brought in results. Fang was given a lot of free rein, but when Waryl Locke gave an order, he listened.

But there were a few downsides to what he did. For one, if he was caught, Fang would be disavowed. Two, his career choice left him very little room for social life. What was really starting to wear him thin was the constant lies to hide who he truly was.

He hadn’t been straight with Van from the word go. That bothered him. Fang never had an urge to divulge to anyone who he really was. But with Van, he found himself wanting to let the guy in. Fang wanted at least one person to know the real him.

Lifting his glass, Fang took a hardy sip of the smoky-flavored liquor. He hissed and curled in his lips as the amber fire slid down his throat. Maybe if he drank enough of this, he could forget Van Pierre and what it felt like to be with the man.

He didn’t flinch when the door to the office opened. Fang remained relaxed, his feet kicked up on the desk as he slouched in the chair. Waryl Locke strode in with an air of confidence that he always carried about himself. “I wasn’t aware that I invited you to my personal stock.”

Fang held up the glass in a salute before he swallowed the rest of the content. He hissed again before he set the tumbler side. “It’s my reward for that scene I had to endure outside.”

One of his eyebrows arched when he looked the man over to see that his boss was drenched from head to toe. “Pool party?”

Waryl Locke shot Fang a heated glare as he wiped some of the water off of his face with a small white towel. “I believe it was the fire alarm.”

The side of Fang’s mouth twitched as he fought not to smile. Waryl Locke would not appreciate being made fun of, and Fang hadn’t come here to get his ass handed to him. “You wanted to see me?”

“I did.” The senator moved to his private stock sitting. He poured himself a glass before he gave Fang’s attention.
